Recognising Excellence and Achievement in Hospitality Apprenticeships.
Speaking at the launch of the awards on Friday, 19th March, Nick Scade, Chair of the Academy of Food and Wine said:
“The Hospitality Industry provides enormous opportunities for those with practical ability. Many at the top of our industry started out as apprentices. The Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards are a great chance for Apprentices to shine and have their achievements recognised. They will also showcase the very best in apprenticeship provision.”
Commenting at the launch of the new Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards 2010, Brian Turner CBE remarked:
“To serve as an apprentice alongside a great mentor and teacher is in my opinion the greatest start to any career. To be able to watch and learn someone who has worked at their trade, made mistakes and learnt how to correct them gives a craftsman a great start in life. I myself was taught by many great and passionate people and it is my wish to be able to encourage others to pass on their skills and knowledge to others.”
As a famous, former, apprentice, Brian Turner’s own achievements were recently recognised at an Honorary Apprenticeship Award Ceremony held at No. 10 Downing Street.
Brian Turner, is a big fan of apprenticeships and is committed to see their take up grow in the Hospitality Industry. “Apprenticeships can be a big first step on the career ladder for many in our industry. This is an excellent time for employers to think about taking on apprentices. The payback in terms of increased productivity, more satisfied customers and profit growth is considerable”.
David Curtis-Brignell, Co-Chair of British Tourism week, and Director of Development Europe, for Millennium and Copthorne Hotels commenting at the launch, added:
“The organisers of British Tourism Week are delighted that the Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards 2010 are being launched during this 4th annual event to highlight the importance and contribution of tourism to the economy of the UK, nationally and locally. Tourism and hospitality provides a wide range of skills and roles for young people to choose from and these Awards play an important part in preparing young professionals as they enter the industry. We wish all the competitors luck although they are all winners by choosing such a rewarding career.”
“As one of the UK's largest hotel companies, Millennium and Copthorne Hotels understands the need for well trained, committed professionals taking tourism and hospitality seriously and undergoing first class training. Good luck to all those taking part - the apprentices of today are tomorrow’s captains of industry.”
The National Skills Academy for Hospitality is offering a fantastic Disney Bursary to the winner. They will experience 3.5 days training at the Disney Institute in Florida as well as receiving free flights, accommodation and park access. This bursary will take place in the autumn of 2010 and the National Skills Academy for Hospitality is very excited to be able to give the winner this experience that will help them develop even further in the hospitality industry.
